What Do The Engine Manufacturers Have To Say Regarding ACES?
Aug 15th, 2007What do the Engine Manufacturers Have To Say Regarding ACES?
What Can They Say?
Federal law, under the Magnuson Moss Act, prohibited the voiding of an OEM
(Original Equipment Manufacturer) warranty because an aftermarket additive, oil, or fuel was used. Furthermore, engine manufacturers are not legally allowed to evaluate, approve of, or disapprove of specific aftermarket products.
What Warranties Actually Cover
Engine manufacturers and vehicle manufacturers provide a material and workmanship warranty on all of the products they manufacture. These manufacturers’ warranties do not cover damage or problems caused by external factors or elements they do not produce or cannot control. This includes fuel which they do not produce or supply.
I Don’t Believe In Additives, Or Biodiesel, so If I Do Nothing, I’m Safe, Right?
Research indicates that consumers are alone to deal with all maintenance costs stemming from inadequate fuel properties, regardless if it’s a biodiesel blend or ULSD fuel. Real world examples that would not be covered by a manufacturers’ warranty are fuel pump or injector damage caused by water, dirt contamination, or poor lubricity, as well as clogged filters caused by microbial contamination. These issues could arise from the use of both ULSD fuel, and Biofuels. Such problems are normally the responsibility of the fuel supplier, not the engine manufacturer.
A Direct Quote From an OEM Warranty Document Regarding Fuels Performance
“Failures that result from the use of anyfuel are not factory defects. Therefore the cost of repair would NOT be covered by ‘OEM warranty.
Quoting OEM Position On Failures Caused By Diesel Fuel Or Biofuels
“The use of biodiesel does not affect the OEM materials and workmanship warranty. However, any engine failure or performance issue caused by the use of biodiesel or other fuel additives cannot be considered as defects of the engine, components or workmanship - and would therefore not be covered by OEM warranty. This is no different from our position with any regular diesel fuel. “Manufacturer does not cover the damage caused by products from other companies that may have insufficient quality. It is important to ensure when using any diesel fuel or a B5 biodiesel blend with OEM engine that the fuel meets industry acceptable quality standards.
BOTTOM LINE: Using ACES will not affect or void your warranty. If you choose not to use ACES, you will still pay top dollar for fuels of varying specification. These fuels do not have warranty protection from the effects of their use. Eliminate the uncertainty, use ACES liquid engineering technology!
